Grindhouse Specialty Coffee

Stones Corner doesn’t exactly scream “foodie destination” but it is slowly reinventing itself with the addition of a few goodies over the past couple of years.

Grindhouse Specialty Coffee is one of these few, a tiny coffee shop stuck in a back alleyway behind the Stones Corner pub (near a sex shop as they admit on their website).

Grindhouse is one for serious coffee lovers. They have a house blend available daily and several single origins at any one time as well. Beans are from Supreme Roasters at Yatala, and also from Dramanti Espresso. All the cool ways of having your coffee are available; aeropress, cold drip, siphon, as well as the usual espresso. There are a few cookies and slices available for those wanting a snack to nibble on at the same time, but no other food, its all about the coffee here.

The place is a bit of a hole in the wall, albeit a large hole… the gleaming red La Marzocco machine shines out like a comforting beacon in the middle of the brownness of draped hessian coffee sacks adorning the ceiling and walls.

We ordered a latte and a cappucino on the house blend and had our drinks whilst sitting in the sun on the low pine stools outside. The house blend was lovely and easy to drink, but still strong enough for those who want a bit of a kick in their coffee. It was enough to please both myself and L, our tastes are generally a bit opposite when it comes to coffee.

At the time we were there, we had a bit of a sticky beak at the new branch of Tuckeria going in next door. A heavily graffitied wall divides the two, and there is a roller window which may mean you can order a burrito whilst drinking your coffee at the same time.

We will leave you with a photo of Rupert the pug puppy who was sharing the sunshine with us… so cute!

Love,

C
